How do you do assessments….especially in classes of 30 – 40?

When I was teaching at Ernest Becker Middle School in Las Vegas in 1996-2002, I had many of the same questions. In large classes, it is difficult to do assessment unless you have a plan. In my classroom, we did playing and written assessment at least every couple of weeks. My middle school students had a difficult time playing on their own. So I would give the class the written portion, while I called student to the testing area individually for the playing portion. This system worked great for me, and I got both tests done on the same day.
