Most guitar students have not belonged to anything bigger than themselves until guitar class. Few guitar students have the experience of being on a football team, being in scouts, etc. The guitar class is often the first exposure to teamwork and belonging to something greater than the sum of its members.
As the teacher, understand your guitar class has the potential of being something greater than just another class. Make the guitar class a club with officers. Give the students the power to make decisions regarding the club. Take your class on trips, even if it is a visit to a local music store.
